An Evening With Dayton Duncan

When: Thursday June 19, 7:00
Where: Walk Festival Hall, Teton Village

Co-Sponsors:
Center for Wonder (arm of the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole)
The National Parks Conservation Association
The Grand Teton National Park Foundation

Program:
Award winning writer and Producer Dayton Duncan will present a sneak preview of his upcoming PBS series co-produced and directed by Ken Burns. Tentatively titled, “The National Parks: An American Treasure,” The presentation will include clips from the series providing a general overview as well as a special focus on former Jackson-based naturalist, scientist, and conservationist Adolph Murie. There will be ample opportunity for questions and answers by the audience.

According to Duncan, “The concept of our National Parks originally focused on the preservation of America’s scenic wonders. This concept has evolved on a continuum to encompass cultural and archeological features, as well as the preservation of healthy habitat and wildlife. Adolph Murie’s work with grizzlies and wolves in Alaska, as well as other wildlife populations throughout the park service, was instrumental in elevating the importance of habitat and wildlife preservation within the framework of our National Parks.”

Duncan has offered to make the presentation on behalf of The Murie Center in gratitude for the Center’s support of and contributions to the series. Former Murie Center archivist, Linda Franklin, supported Duncan’s research with records, correspondence, and photographs from the substantial Murie Archive.
